Why not Macron as French president?

Unknown to the public until two years ago, Emmanuel Macron is a 39 years old former investment banker and economy minister who could become the next president of France. Last November, he took the decision to run for French election independently. Not identifying himself as both right and left on the spectrum, Macron is against the political system. Some people consider his policies as all over the place, while others see him as the leader to take the country in a new direction, with 15,000 people attending his campaign launch.

According to Macron, it is a mistake to believe that an election platform is the heart of a political campaign. He said, “Politics is a style, a magic”.  In his book,  ” Revolution “, Macron presents himself as a social democrat wanting that wants to maintain a capitalist economy with more social justice. Here are the most popular ideas promoted by Macron:

-Decreasing the gross and net income gap by removing health and unemployment contributions. This reform will allow couples to  get a guaranteed minimum wage and earnings of at least 500 euros.

-Create 15,000 additional places in jail during his five-year term. He wants zero tolerance with delinquency.

-Maintaining the 35 hours a week for young workers, but decreasing to 32 hours for elderly persons. Introduce freelance benefits in order to increase entrepreneurship.

-Increasing the retirement age from 60 to 67 years old.

-Creation of a cultural pass for 18 year olds in order to develop the artistic access to the youth of France.

See you on April 2017,

En Marche !

4 good reasons to watch La La Land

After Whiplash, Damien Chazelle  made an other masterpiece in LaLaLand, which is a reference to the city of Los Angeles and also of being out of touch with reality. The musical shares the life of  Mia (Emma Stone), who dreams of becoming an actress. While she is waiting for her dream to come true, she works as waitress in a café in Hollywood.  On the other side, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) is a piano player in a jazz club as a means of survival. Destiny is going to bring  both these big dreamers together.

  1. The casting with Emma Stone + Ryan Gosling is a perfect match, like a modern version of Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in Notting Hill.
  2. The soundtrack is composed by Justin Hurwitz and written by Ben Pasek and Justin Paul makes the cinematic experience of the movie. The diversity of this soundtrack takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and makes the viewer want to dance in the street.
  3. It is aesthetically pleasing, with excellent use of colours, costumes and a wonderful image. If you want stars in your eyes, this movie is for you.
  4. The escapism that we need once in a while. After watching this film, you lose yourself in this masterpiece by Damien Chazelle. After the recent success of the filmmaker, you can’t wait for his next project.

Thank you again Damien

When in Rome…

Although I had been to Rome before, I have recently gained a close friend in Milan. So naturally I put down my pencil at Uni and grabbed my passport. She packed her bags and met me in the beautiful city of Rome for an incredible ‘girls day out’.

The Colosseum

Upon having incredible history behind the Colosseum, the area surrounding it is beautiful. Of course this area was a prime place to take pictures and enjoy a glass of Italian wine under the sunset. Remains of the Colosseum make for a great walk to and from the next site.

The Vatican

Since we were visiting at the beginning of January, all Christmas decorations were getting taken down including the large tree in the middle of the square. This required a crane and several people to help take down hundreds of ornaments. Although we did not have time to go through the church, I would recommend having a ticket prior to visiting in order to skip the line and pay a more reasonable price.

The River Tiber

One of the longest rivers in Italy is the Tiber and along this river holds some of the most magnificent views in all of Europe. History fills the street from B.C. to today. Live entertainment is in the air and varies from pianists, to guitarist and singers to violinist surrounding the church. The entrance fee is very reasonable and the view from the top is over the entire city center.

Trevi Fountain

Of course visiting the Trevi Fountain was mandatory. After tossing a euro in the fountain, we were able to find a ‘hole in the wall’ Italian restaurant with homemade noodles, freshly made sauce and great red wine. Overall the trip to Italy was ‘magnifico’!

The most fashionable city in China – SHANGHAI

Shanghai can be called as the most fashionable city in China and also a main industry hub of China.  Hence, the city attracts many tourists to have a visit. There is a saying that goes, “Shanghai is heaven for the rich, hell for the poor.”

The Bund

It is worth to have a view of the Bund’s florid night. Under the use of periodic lampposts is consistent with the beauty of the building structure. It fully shows the magnificent architecture of various architectural styles, forming the best night view of Shanghai, as well as the colorful lights floating in the river and flashing lights on the other side of the river.

Silva the loan ranger

Hull City, who currently stand in 18th place in the Premier League, will stay up this year and avoid relegation to the Championship.

Why?  Marco Silva- that’s why.

Marco Silva

Usually for Hull the first half of the season is the best half, and as soon as January comes all they do is lose. However, this year is different. Hull have lost, home and away games, repeatedly since appointing Mike Phelan as the full time coach.

While the fans supported Phelan, he did not provide results. The owners (Don’t get me started on them) decided to fire Phelan early January, and almost immediately hire a young man called “Marco Silva”.

Mike Phelan

While Silva does not have any previous English football experience, he has brought a strong tactical attitude.

Attention to detail has seen performances improve, especially against some of the top clubs in English football.

A 2-1 win against Manchester United, to break a streak of 16 games unbeaten, showed the determination and spirit of a revitalised team.

Marco Silva went wild in the transfer window- bringing in 3 attacking players on a permanent  basis, and 5 loan players to help secure safety from relegation.  The players he have brought in have all shown a determination to play for a coach who believes in them.

Marco Silva’s nickname due to his series of loan signings

Only 7 points separates 14th and 20th place, showing that anything can happen. But Hull have shown drastic improvement, enough to raise the hopes of many Hull fans.

Not sure about the rules of American Football? Go no further.

American Football can seem a relatively confusing game to watch, if you don’t know the basics.

In a quick nutshell: The game is played by two teams, of which their aim is to get the ball into the opponents “end zone”.

Once the ball gets into the end zone, by either running or throwing the ball to a team-mate, the team scores a “touch down”- worth 6 points. The team then has the opportunity to kick the ball through the posts for an addition 1 point.

“American football is a game of yards and inches”

Once the ball is thrown, or ran, by the attacking team, they are not considered “down” until they are tackled or the ball hits the ground.

The attacking team must move the ball a total of 10 yards, in what is known as “four downs”. The team has four chances to gain 10 yards, if they are successful they get another “four downs” to move it a further 10 yards (until they reach the “end zone”).

Following me so far?

If the team doesn’t reach 10 yards within four downs, then they must either “punt” the ball to the opposition or try for a field goal (worth 3 points).

All in all there are far too many rules and plays to explain in this introduction to American Football. Learning as you watch is the best way to fully understand.

If you have any questions about American Football, please just drop a question in the comments box and I’ll get back to you!

A brief encounter of the greatest game ever

This blog is about American Football, if you’re not aware of the rules of American Football, you can find them in my previous blog here!

Firstly, I’d like to say that my team won (New England Patriots)..but that in no way will bias this post.

Underdogs- Atlanta Falcons, against the favourites- New England Patriots. This being said the majority of the USA were cheering on the Atlanta Falcons (Something to do with New England being too good).

Okay so i’ll admit it, the first half wasn’t a great half. Patriots down by a score of 21-3. However, if Atlanta can score 21 points in a single half…so can the Patriots?

End of the 3rd Quarter saw the score increase 28-9. Not looking good at all.

But this is where the game gets exciting. After several hours of American football, the Patriots find some rhythm in the final Quarter.

The Patriots rally to successive touchdowns and suddenly the game is 28-20. With 2 minutes and 25 seconds left on the game clock, Brady throws the ball…it gets knocked in the air by Atlanta…it falls slowly…it’s grabbed by a Patriot… Is it caught? Is the Game over?

Out of nowhere the game is tied, 28-28. Time for overtime!

The Patriots can’t lose now? Right?

Right. THEY WON, on the opening “drive” of overtime!

Never miss it!3 big questions for The 2017 Formula One

It’s the start of a new year and in F1 factories across the world preparations are well underway for the coming season – a season that will bring with it the biggest technical changes in three years. To whet your appetite, we’ve compiled a list of 3 of the most intriguing storylines heading into the new F1 campaign…

1. Will other teams come to the fore under the new regulations?

With wider tyres and significantly revised bodywork, F1 cars will look and behave very differently in 2017. The first indication of how things will play out will come in testing, which gets underway in Barcelona at the end of February.

2. how much faster will F1 racing be in 2017?

How much will we see lap times drop by in 2017? The initial idea of the wider tyres and revised aero was to make the cars three-to-five seconds per lap faster, which in turn would make them more challenging to drive. But given the fact that many teams are expecting rapid development throughout the season, could we see even bigger performance gains? One thing’s for sure, the drivers won’t be complaining. “Higher corner speeds are always nice,” said Valtteri Bottas after sampling Williams’ 2017 car in the simulator.

3. Which version of Ferrari will we see in 2017?

In 2015, Ferrari were a growing force, with Sebastian Vettel winning three races and proving a constant thorn in Mercedes’ side. But when a 2016 title challenge failed to materialise, the Prancing Horse seemed to lose its way, with the departure of tech chief James Allison symptomatic of apparent behind-the-scenes instability. The big question now is which Ferrari we’ll see in 2017 – one that has regrouped and regalvanised over the winter and can fight for Grand Prix victories and the title, or the somewhat blunt version we saw in 2016. What’s certain is that another winless season will not be tolerated.
