Iceland -The Land of Fire and Ice

“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Eat Pray Love

I am a travel addict and a lover of adventure. I yearn to see the world and experience different cultures. During my last Christmas holiday, I travelled to Iceland – the land of fire and ice – so called because of its glaciers, volcanoes, and hot springs.

First time to see the snow.

During the winter, the entire country is blanketed with snow, creating a beautiful, serene vista like something out of a film.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Iceland is a must-visit destination. It is one of Iceland’s natural crown jewels, and the local people have taken to calling the black beach nearby “Diamond Beach”,since the ice crystals strewn across it glisten like diamonds in the sunlight.

Gullfoss waterfall

Gullfoss waterfall
literally means ‘Golden waterfall’ and, most agree that it’s the most breath-taking in the country.

Geysir

Geysir is also a popular destination for tourists, who often visit on their way to Gullfoss. The geyser launches a staggering volume of hot water up to 20 meters skyward every ten minutes, making it a sight to behold.

Icelandic horses.

The Icelandic horse is a unique breed of smallish horses which love interacting with people, and are extremely popular with tourists who see them as cute. Why not enjoy a different riding experience with Icelandic horses?

City view of Reykjavik.

Even though Iceland is covered in white snow for much of the year, its cities are very colorful – looking like paintings. Most Icelanders are very respectful of nature and protect their natural resources; preserving Iceland’s beauty
